Job Summary
The School of Engineering at RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE in Troy, NY invites applications for multiple Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Professor of Practice positions in Robotics starting in fall 2018. We seek outstanding and candidates to expand existing robotics course offerings and help establish a robotics curriculum.
Candidates are expected to have background and experience in teaching, research, and practice related to robotics systems, software, design, and analysis. Knowledge in contemporary robotics tools for middleware, embedded system, visualization, simulation, motion planning, sensing and control is preferred. Additional experience in related areas such as manufacturing, human-machine interaction, machine learning, computer vision, artificial intelligence, cognitive science is highly desirable. In addition to contributing to the robotics curriculum, there will also be ample opportunities to participate in active research programs in robotics and automation, and research centers such as Center for Automation Technologies and Systems ( CATS ) and the Cognitive and Immersive Systems Lab ( CISL ).
As a Lecturer, candidates must have Ph.D. or foreign degree equivalent in a field related to robotics, have related professional experience, and possess evidence of effective teaching. As a Sr. Lecturer, candidate must meet the criteria for a Lecturer, and have substantive professional experience in a related field. As a Professor of Practice, candidates must meet the Lecturer criteria, and have obtained unique professional experience, having performed distinguished research and/or having served as a senior executive in a related discipline, and a portfolio of work as typically attained in 10 or more years of progressively responsible leadership in one’s field.
The successful candidate will teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses, advise students, and serve the academic department as assigned. At the Sr. Lecturer and Professor of Practice levels, candidates will also be expected to develop and maintain a research portfolio. A Professor of Practice may serve as a Principal Investigator.
The School of Engineering has approximately 160 faculty, 3000 undergraduates, and 480 graduate students, and is in a period of growth. These positions are expected to complement and augment existing strengths in robotics, automation, mechatronics, and manufacturing. Successful candidates will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratory sessions in robotics and related areas, and to participate in activities that strengthen the School of Engineering, Rensselaer and the broader Rensselaer community.
